Born on the beautiful twin Federation Caribbean islands of St. Kitts and Nevis, Melvina “Mel” grew up in Leeds, England. She is married, has 2 children, 4 grandchildren and 2 beautiful great grandchildren. An avid traveler, she has traveled to over 40 countries and all but two (2) continents — something she plans on changing in the near future…well, maybe not Antarctica right now.
In her late teens, Mel was a former beauty queen and carnival queen in England. In additional to her day job, Mel is the executive director of The Caribbean Cultural Coalition, a 501c3 non-profit organization whose goal is to provide goods and services to the most vulnerable members of the Caribbean community both here and back home in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Mel is passionate about planning events and taking things to the next level and making her members her top priority.
Mel joined the GHBA as director of special events in 2011. She serves as the liaison to the Sales and Marketing Council (SMC) and the Montgomery County Builders & Developers Division (MCBDD). She also plans and executes the association’s largest events including Houston’s Best PRISM Awards, Million Dollar Circle, Texas Bash, REALTOR Rendezvous, Battle of the Builders, Montgomery County Golf Tournament, Annual Economic Forecast Luncheon, Mid Year Forecast Luncheon and the Annual Installation Celebration.
