I never know what to say when I’m asked to talk about myself, but I’ll do my best! A side note: I shared this profile with my son Michael to see what he thought. He said, “it was bipolar” but also “had some deep stuff.” Thank you, Michael, for being my editor.

I earned my BBA from the University of Houston in 1998, with a major in General Business and a minor in Accounting. I’m proud to say that I was the first in my immediate family to finish college. For that, I want to thank my aunt who told me that going to college was possible, and that there were programs available for people who did not have the necessary finances (even though I didn’t believe her at the time). I also have to thank Mrs. Benson, my high school business professionals teacher, who made all of her students fill out a financial aid application and apply to a few colleges. I’m so glad that I did!

I’ve been with the GHBA as staff accountant for about 14 years. Prior to GHBA, I worked at Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) for about seven years.

An incredibly special person who has been a huge influence on my life is my mother. She is always loving, supportive, and I believe she is the reason I am a humble person. She is also the reason I try to treat all people the way that I want to be treated. My mom is kind and loving and has always helped me out in my time of need, even when I didn’t want to ask for help. She taught me to be independent, because in life many people can let you down.

I have many wonderful memories as a young girl growing up in Houston… I had a bouncy horse, a big wheel, and a tricycle. I loved playing outside and going to the lady’s house down the street who sold candy out of her kitchen for frozen Kool cups and caramel popcorn balls. I loved playing with my cousins, dancing, jumping in the bed, playing hopscotch, jacks, dodge ball, and red-light green-light. These memories make me think I was much more adventurous as a child than I am now!

When I am not working, I enjoy relaxing and watching movies. My son Michael and I really enjoy watching funny videos and often have family over to play games and make dinner together. This year we went kayaking for the first time and we really enjoyed it. My goal is to eventually start traveling more.

I want to conclude with a huge milestone in my life that makes me proud. I bought my first home about three years ago, all on my own, and I owe that to God and to my mom who always believes in me.
