The Grand Awards are scored on a point scale with points being awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place only. From those points, only the top seven (7) scores for Volume Builder and Custom Builder categories and the top four (4) scores for Remodeler, Developer and Promotion categories will be used to calculate the Grand Award Winners. The number of top entries coincides with the minimum entry requirements for that award. The new scoring adjustment allows for a more even playing field where only the best entries are judged.
- 10 points are awarded for 1st place
- 5 points are awarded for 2nd place
- 1 point is awarded for 3rd place
- Only 1st – 3rd place will be awarded points
Note: The winner of any category with only one entry will receive 5 points vs. 10 points with regard to scoring for the Grand Award, provided that single-entry is included in the number of top entries required (7 or 4, as stated above) to meet the minimum for that award.
Example Grand Award Calculation for Volume Builder:
Builder X:
Volume Builder X enters twenty (20) product categories. Of the twenty (20) categories entered Builder X places either 1st, 2nd or 3rd in ten (10) of those twenty (20) categories. Only the top seven (7) of the ten (10) scores are added for the grand award total score. The points from the top seven (7) categories (d - j) will be calculated.
Example of Builder X’s score:
Category a = 3rd place – 1 pt
Category b = 2nd place – 5 pt
Category c = 2nd place – 5 pts
Category d = 2nd place – 5 pts
Category e = 2nd place – 5 pts
Category f = 2nd place – 5 pts
Category g = 2nd place – 5 pts
Category h = 1st place – 10 pts
Category i = 1st place – 10 pts
Category j = 1st place – 10 pts
So Builder X’s total score is 50 points.
Builder Y:
Volume Builder Y enters seven (7) product categories. Of the seven (7) categories entered Builder Y places either 1st, 2nd or 3rd in seven (7) of those seven (7) categories. Only the top seven (7) scores are added for the grand award total score. The points from the top seven (7) categories (a-g) will be calculated.
Example of Builder Y’s score:
Category a = 2nd place – 5 pts
Category b = 2nd place – 5 pts
Category c = 2nd place – 5 pts
Category d = 1st place – 10 pts
Category e = 1st place – 10 pts
Category f = 1st place – 10 pts
Category g = 1st place – 10 pts
So Builder Y’s total score is 55 points.
If these were the only two entrants for the Volume Builder Grand Award, then Builder Y would be the winner with 55 points versus Builder X’s 50 points.
Example Grand Award Calculation for Remodeler:
Remodeler X:
Remodeler X enters ten (10) product categories. Of the ten (10) categories entered, Remodeler X places either 1st, 2nd or 3rd in six (6) of those ten (10) categories. The top four (4) of the six (6) scores are added for the total score. The points from the top four (4) categories (c-f) will be calculated. So Remodeler X’s score is 35 points.
Example of Remodeler X's score :
Category a = 3rd place – 1 pt
Category b = 2nd place – 5 pts
Category c = 2nd place – 5 pts
Category d = 1st place – 10 pts
Category e = 1st place – 10 pts
Category f = 1st place – 10 ps
So Remodeler X’s score is 35 points.
Remodeler Y:
Remodeler Y enters seven (7) product categories. Of the seven (7) categories entered, Remodeler Y places either 1st, 2nd or 3rd in five (5) of those seven (7) categories. The top four (4) of the five (5) scores are added for the total score. The points from the top four (4) categories (b-e) will be calculated.
Example of Remodeler Y's score:
Category a = 3rd place – 1 pt
Category b = 3rd place – 1 pt
Category c = 2nd place – 5 pts
Category d = 1st place – 10 pts
Category e = 1st place – 10 pts
So Remodeler Y’s score is 26 points.
If these were the only two entrants for the Remodeler Grand Award, then Builder X would be the winner with 35 points versus Builder Y’s 26 points.
