Originally from Illinois, Dave attended Texas Tech University to study architecture and later graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Science. He has been in construction for 35 years, with the last 30 years as a home builder in and around the Houston area. In the past, Dave built thousands of homes as a superintendent for large production builders. He eventually went into management where he supervised numerous subdivisions in the Houston area. He is currently based in Houston, Texas as the Compliance Officer for Tilson Homes.
Dave has been married to his wife, Mindy, for 37 years. They have four adult children and one granddaughter. Dave enjoys watching sports on TV (when there actually are sports on TV) meeting with friends down in his woodshop, and going on bike rides with his wife.
The woodshop has become the center of activity for Dave. He started up Texas Pen Makers where he creates custom wooden and acrylic pens. Genres like baseball, football, endangered animals, faith, Texas, firearms, western, and music are all captured in these small works of art.
He also has developed a knack for creating art in wood using a CNC machine. These wooden sculptures in oak, cherry, walnut, cedar, mesquite and other woods are all one-of-a-kind. When not creating these he creates wooden signs ranging from funny to inspirational.
In his spare time, Dave has taken on refurbishing a piano that was actually built in Galveston and is well over 100 years old. He enjoys making the wood come back to life and hopes to make it playable once again. When he comes upon a nice piece of wood it can become a small cutting board or a nice coffee table for someone’s home.
Finally, just to relax, Dave can be found out in the country with his drone filming whatever Mother Nature has on display. Many of his pictures and videos can be seen on his website www.daveyelovich.com/ or on his YouTube channel.
Dave is a member of the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) where he serves on numerous code committees, the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) where he chairs the Education Committee, and the Texas Association of Home Builders (TAB) where he serves on the Codes and Standards Committee. He is also a member of the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors Advisory Board at the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TCLR), and the Texas Real Estate Teachers Association (TRETA). Dave is a certified instructor for NAHB, OSHA, TREC, and the International Code Council (ICC).
