Cancer Center Tour  TCH-Tour-025The 2016 Greater Houston Builders Association Benefit Homes Committee were honored guests at the Texas Children’s Cancer Center recently, where builders, Castletree Homes and Trendmaker Homes joined developer Rise Communities and other Benefit Homes committee members on a tour of the facility. Castletree Homes has recently completed their Benefit Home in Miramesa and Trendmaker will soon be breaking ground on their home in the Rise Community of Meridiana.

Each year, two homebuilders donate construction management for the GHBA fundraiser. The homes are constructed with donated materials, labor and services and are sold at market value. The majority of the proceeds benefit Texas Children’s Cancer Center, the Alzheimer’s Association and HomeAid Houston. Since the Project began 36 years ago, more than $9 million has been raised.

Benefit Homes Cancer Center TourDr. ZoAnn Dreyer with Texas Children’s Cancer Center led the tour of the care-giving areas and Dr. Xiao-Nan Li shared research statistics and procedures. In 1988, the leadership of the GHBA leadership adopted Texas Children’s Hospital as a beneficiary of their annual fundraiser. Today, the Benefit Homes Project and Texas Children’s Hospital still embrace this 26 year partnership through the task of providing funds and caring for children facing huge challenges.

“The tour of the renowned Cancer Center touched every member of the Benefit Homes’ committee. There is no better way to get an understanding of the important work the Center provides, than by seeing first-hand the children being treated and the depth and scope of the medical teams.”Will Holder, 2016 Benefit Homes Committee Chair
