Building a Life of Gratitude

John WilliamsPresident's Message

John F. Kennedy once said, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

November is the time of year we are all reminded to give thanks for the things that make life so remarkable. I believe gratitude is something that shouldn’t be taken for granted or confined to a single day on a single month, instead it should be a focus and driving force in life and shared every day.

I’m incredibly grateful for the homebuilding industry and for countless individuals who have shared the effort in serving the industry, our association, and especially those who have touched my life along the way. I’m going to take this opportunity to share some of my gratitude.
To start, I’m incredibly grateful to each of you, our association members, who have put your trust and confidence in me to lead this incredible organization.

I have immense appreciation for Casey Morgan and her wonderful team at the Greater Houston Builders Association who are so deeply dedicated to our members and the community. Casey and her staff are the unsung heroes of the local homebuilding industry. I can tell you that most members only see a glimpse of the effort and devotion they invest on a daily basis in their service.

The GHBA is one of the largest and most effective home builder associations in the country. Having served multiple years as a board member on both the Texas Association of Builders and National Association of Builders, I can tell you that we are typically the model for other associations and this is largely attributable to the effort of current and former staff. There are many others who also contribute as volunteers.

To all of the GHBA board members, HOME-PAC members, committee and council chairs and board members, sponsors, as well as all of the individuals that engage within the GHBA, I give my deep thanks to you as well. We are only as strong as our members, and we continue to be blessed with a very active and engaged membership.

Thank you as well to all the companies that invest their resources and people’s time in serving as good stewards of homebuilding. There are countless contributions that will never be mentioned in an article, or an email or a news blast about your efforts, but I want you to know they do not go unnoticed and you are an integral part of the livelihood of our industry.

Speaking of companies, I especially want to pass along thanks to mine. K. Hovnanian Homes has been an absolute blessing for me. I’ve invested so much of my life into the success of the company and in turn they have invested deeply in me.

I have the most incredible teams and leaders to work with and I’m deeply grateful to their commitment to our mutual success. Our division president, David Orlando, is one of the most hard-working and brilliant people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Thank you for your support of me and dedication to our division, the company and our associates. I’m very fortunate for an incredible work family and even more fortunate for my actual family.

To my lovely wife, Patricia, and our two little blessings, Stella and Layla, you overfill my life with inspiration and love. You raise me up, challenge me, and show me so much beauty in each moment of life. You give me every reason and energy to be try to be the man you deserve. Thank you for your support and love.

Most importantly, I give all praise to God for leading me through this life, to this family, to this career, to KHOV, to this association, and to all of you. THANK YOU.
