“Lago Mar is a beautifully planned community for families of all sizes. With all its attention to nature and comfort, this new community will provide the perfect backdrop to the Westin Homes Benefit Home.”Will Holder, Chairman, Benefit Homes Project

Lago Mar is a 2,033 acre master planned community located off I-45 South in the Clear Lake, Galveston corridor. The community is near the Armand Bayou Nature Center, the largest urban wildlife refuge in the U.S. and just a few miles from Space Center Houston and the Kemah Boardwalk. Spring and summer fun is also just south at Schlitterbahn Waterpark on Galveston Island, and retail shopping is minutes away at the Tanger Outlet Mall.

Lago Mar also offers residents beautiful outdoor spaces and planned resort-style amenities in their own backyard that will be open in 2017. They include a recreation center complete with a pool, 3,000 sq. ft. clubhouse, and a fully equipped fitness room. The center will also include a catering kitchen, business center, restroom facilities and a playground.

“Lago Mar is a beautifully planned community for families of all sizes,” said Will Holder, chairman of the Benefit Homes Project. “With all its attention to nature and comfort, this new community will provide the perfect backdrop to the Westin Homes Benefit Home.”

Each year two to three homes are built for the Benefit Homes Project with donated land, construction management, materials, labor and services by GHBA members. These homes are constructed with upgrade materials and features and are sold at market value. The majority of the proceeds from the sale of the 2017 home will be donated to HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home. Since the project began 37 years ago, nearly $10 million has been raised.

Westin Homes is building its 4,019 sq. ft. Carter III B Elevation plan for the project. This home will include five bedrooms (with two on the first floor), 4.5 bathrooms, and a two-car garage with five additional feet added, which can be used for extra storage or a convenient workshop.

From the grand foyer, guests will have a view of the triple tiered rotunda ceiling and curved stairway, formal dining room, and study. Beyond the foyer is a two-story family room featuring a wall of windows and adjacent epicurean island kitchen with upgraded cabinets and breakfast area. The private master suite will have a double tiered tray ceiling with no bedrooms above for peaceful relaxation. Upstairs is a game room and adjacent media room. The home also offers a covered rear patio.

Construction on a second Benefit Home was recently begun by Chesmar Homes in the Newland community of Elyson off the Grand Parkway and FM 529. Newland Communities donated the homesite.
