The GHBA recently announced the 2017 “Of the Year Awards” at the 2018 Installation Celebration, themed “Building a Bright Future” and held at the Revention Music Center in downtown Houston. Winners were named for the prestigious Bud Inscho Associate Award, Presidential Citations, and the Young Professional, Developer, Custom Builder, Remodeler, and Builder of the Year.

The evening featured the formal installation ceremony for the incoming GHBA president, Don Klein with Chesmar Homes, and the new board of directors before a crowd of more than 400. Scott Merovitch with Chesmar Homes was the master of ceremonies.

Annual ‘Of the Year’ award winners are selected by industry peers. Winners are:

Bud Inscho Associate of the Year

Jeff Solomon, CGA, CGP, Allpoints Services

Jeff has long been a fixture at the GHBA. He works behind the scenes to support the councils and shows up early or stays late at major associate events. Council and GHBA staff often rely on his institutional knowledge and unwavering volunteerism. He never demands attention or accolades for his dedicated work yet his contributions are always significant.

Presidential Citations:

Toner Kersting, MCGP, CGP, TONER Home Matters

Toner demonstrated great commitment to the GHBA through membership recruitment, post-Harvey education, and HomeAid board service.

Jim Russ, EHRA Engineering

Jim is a member of the GHBA board, participates in all membership drives, represents the association at political events and provides his expertise on government affairs issues.

Patrick Mayhan, Westin Homes

Patrick is a GHBA board member, he served as BABA president and has agreed to serve in BABA leadership again in 2018. He led a team to complete a Benefit Home in 2017, and is on the ladder to become HomeAid president in 2019.

Dan Bawden, GMB, CAPS, CGR, CGP, Legal Eagle Contractors

Dan was one of the main “go-to” experts after Harvey. He was always available for media inquiries, remodeling tips, or consumer questions. His calm-under-pressure attitude was critical when disseminating information to the membership.

Land Tejas Companies Ltd.

Land Tejas has been a generous contributor to the GHBA year after year. They have donated a remarkable 15 lots to the GHBA Benefit Homes project, which benefits HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home. This contribution equals more than $1 million in total value.

Outstanding Young Professional

Kendall McDermott, RoofTec

Kendall quickly emerged as a valuable leader, demonstrating to other young professionals how to get involved in the association. She is also a new Custom Builders Council and HomeAid Houston board member. Despite her brief tenure on the HomeAid board, she immediately stepped up and offered her employer’s services in order to successfully complete Roofs over Houston’s Homeless, a HomeAid project that repaired the roofs of homeless shelters across the city in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Developer of the Year

The Signorelli Company

The Signorelli Company has been a mainstay in the GHBA development community for years. GHBA members rely on their experience, knowledge and assistance on a wide variety of issues from government affairs advocacy, political fundraising, industry expertise and charitable giving. They are also constructing a HomeAid project in north Houston in 2018. They also represent a growing region of the GHBA membership in Montgomery County.

Custom Builder of the Year

Matthew Reibenstein, Royal Design Build Co.

Matthew has served in leadership positions for the GHBA in several capacities. Recently he served as the MCBDD division president two consecutive years, he served on the GHBA board and continues to serve as TAB director. He fosters greater educational opportunities to his fellow builders in the northern corner of our region.

Remodeler of the Year

Kevin Vick, CAPS, CGP, CGR, Vick Construction and Remodeling
Under his leadership, the Remodelers Council has seen significant growth in membership; in fact, the Remodelers Council just accepted the NAHB Council Award for Outstanding Recruitment and Retention. This remodeler’s steadfast leadership was not only helpful in membership recruitment, but in educational efforts as well.

Builder of the Year

Taylor Morrison/Darling Homes

This dynamic duo built a HomeAid Playhouse that personified the “All American Spirit” – and, in the process, broke all records for the charity’s fundraising. This builder team has also committed to build a Benefit Home for the GHBA in 2018 and one of its employees is the 2018 HomeAid board president.

Not only does this 2017 Builder of the Year contribute to the GHBA through charitable giving, but through political advocacy and significant sales and marketing involvement, including the top leadership position of the SMC. This builder partnership sets an industry standard for association involvement, industry-wide respect and quality production.

Congratulations to all of our honorees and thank you for your dedicated service to the association.
