The Community Developers Council of the Greater Houston Builders Association serves the residential development industry in the Harris, Montgomery, Fort Bend and Brazoria County area. Membership in the Council is open to any developer member of the GHBA. Members in related fields, such as engineering and land planning, also attend the meetings, which are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month at the GHBA offices.

The Council is active at the state, county and municipal levels monitoring legislation, regulations and ordinances that affect the development community. The Council is proactive in reviewing and offering input to various government entities on specific issues. Following are some examples of action taken by the Council during the past year.

  2005 Accomplishments

Improved development procedures such as street acceptance, landscaping in right-of-ways, paving geometrics and subgrade.

Helped in implementation of online plan processing and street acceptance program in Harris County

Pushed for the approval 4" roll-over curbs within the City of Houston.

Actively participated in improving flood control policies, procedures and criteria manual.

Effectively lobbied to stop a proposal for implementation of a road impact fee in Pearland.

Became the driving force in securing a change in state law to curb water district abuses of CCN (certificates of convenience and necessity) authority

Worked closely with CenterPoint Energy to implement its new "joint trench program"

The council hosted a number of excellent guest speakers on the above topics and more. This list is just a sample of the activities undertaken by the council last year.
