Committees and Councils
Committee membership is an essential tool in getting the most out of your membership. By becoming active on a committee, you meet new members, share ideas, network with your peers and contribute your expertise to your association and to your industry. GHBA has something for everyone!
- AMBASSADOR & MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE: Provides a great opportunity for networking and recognition with your peers in the industry as you recruit or retain members. Each committee plans contests for the general membership and makes recommendations in regard to the Spike Club. Members receive additional incentives for recruiting and retaining members.
ASSOCIATE COUNCIL: Develops, promotes and coordinates the active participation of members within the association. Council provides major financial support through non-dues income activities. A portion of these funds is designated to annual scholarships for children of GHBA members.
BAY AREA BUILDERS ASSOCIATION (BABA): A division of GHBA dedicated to members doing business in the Bay Area. Works closely with local city officials to ensure new laws and regulations are not detrimental to the industry and keeps members informed of important updates. Regular events are held in Friendswood, providing a forum to meet and network with other BABA and GHBA members.
CODES & STANDARDS COMMITTEE: Works on issues ranging from improving building codes and privatizing inspections to fire sprinklers, etc. Active on the Construction Industry Council reviewing codes for the City of Houston, and provides forum for interacting with municipal building officials.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPERS COUNCIL: Works to resolve problems confronting Houston developers, through both legislative and private channels. GHBA looks to this council for policy recommendations concerning flood control, subsidence and other development and environmental issues.
CUSTOM BUILDERS COUNCIL: Established to address the challenges faced by small volume custom builders. Benefits include standardized contracts and education. (Associate Membership: $100)
EDUCATION COMMITTEE: Develops ongoing seminars and educational opportunities for members to enhance the level of professionalism in the industry. Presents a year-long series of classes through and facilitates other seminars including legal and legislative updates.
GREEN BUILT GULF COAST: Serves the Greater Houston region by promoting healthy, energy and water efficient homes that reduce utility costs and use recycled, renewable and/or reclaimed materials that protect the environment.
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE: Represents the industry in city halls, county courthouses and the state capitol. Works closely with the Political Action Committee, HOME-PAC, to educate candidates and public officials about issues of importance to the industry. HOME-PAC donations help GHBA ensure industry-friendly candidates are elected into office.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY BUILDERS & DEVELOPERS DIVISION: Branch of GHBA dedicated to members doing business in Montgomery County, one of the top 15 fastest-growing counties in the U.S. Serves as a central point of contact for county officials on building and development issues affecting the area.
REMODELORS COUNCIL: Not just for remodelers anymore! This award-winning council is comprised of remodelers, architects, suppliers, manufacturers and design professionals. Stresses high professional standards in the home improvement industry & continuing education. (Membership: $100)
SALES & MARKETING COUNCIL: Nationally recognized forum for sales and marketing professionals to meet, network and exchange ideas. Committed to the education, motivation and growth of professionalism in the marketing, merchandising and sale of new homes. (Membership: $80/Affiliate membership: $120)- VOLUME BUILDERS COUNCIL: This committee serves as a focus group for industry issues, provides a voice to our small/large volume builders, and is a way to communicate public policy and other initiatives to this group. - YOUNG PROFESSIONALS COMMITTEE: The YP Committee offers an environment for educational, philanthropic, networking and career growth opportunities for Young Professionals (under 45) affiliated with the development, remodeling and homebuilding industries. The YP group meets quarterly, and events contain an educational component often in the form of presentations by GHBA members or industry leaders or networking events.
