GHBA Benefit Homes Project

Nearly four decades ago, the GHBA board of directors envisioned a charitable project that would bring the generosity of builders, developers and vendors together to give back to Houston. After careful and thoughtful planning, the GHBA formed the Benefit Homes Project. The goal was to do what GHBA members do best—build quality homes. These homes would then be sold at market value for a profit. The majority of that profit would be donated to charity.

The builders, developers, vendors and suppliers who participate are firm believers in the Benefit Homes Project mission: To ensure a brighter future for the community’s less fortunate, through the heart and hands of the homebuilding industry.

If you ask them why this is important to them they will tell you, “Even in economically challenged times, men, women and children facing homelessness and our wounded veterans returning from service to our country need help more than ever.” This generosity reflects the commitment that Houston area builders and developers have to their community.

Over the life of this program the GHBA has donated nearly

$10 million to local charities

Currently the Benefit Homes Project distributes the majority of the proceeds to HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home—both local Houston charities.

Chesmar Homes & Newland Communities

Chesmar Homes has joined the 2017 GHBA Benefit Homes team as the builder of its fifth home for this 37-year-old charity fundraiser. Chesmar will donate the construction management of its Poplar Plan in Elyson on a lot donated by the developer, Newland Communities. Chesmar Homes is known for its unique home plans, offering today’s savvy buyers the functionality and features they desire including energy efficiency. Chesmar uses cutting-edge building science to ensure high performance in each home, resulting in a comfortable, more durable home with lower operating costs for homeowners.

Elyson is the newest Houston area development by Newland Communities in the highly regarded Katy Independent School District. A 3,642-acre community, Elyson will devote more than 750 acres to recreation centers, parks, trails, lakes and natural open spaces, continuing the Newland philosophy of envisioning and planning communities from the ground up to create the best possible experience for people who will one day call them home.

Westin Homes & Land Tejas Development

Westin Homes Carter III plan

For more than two decades, Westin Homes has earned a reputation for building elegant, high quality homes in some of the most desirable communities in Houston. The company’s passionate focus has always been centered on customer satisfaction, architectural design and an unparalleled attention to detail.

Westin’s Benefit Home will be constructed in Lago Mar, a luxurious community set against a backdrop of palm trees, lakes and lush landscaping. A broad range of amenities add to the appeal of this distinctive development. Largo Mar is located in Texas City, off Interstate 45 South, in the Galveston-Clear Lake corridor. This will be the 15th homesite that Land Tejas has donated for the GHBA’s 37 year old annual fundraiser.

Here’s what our members say:

GHBA is the “go to” for Residential Construction information in the Greater Houston area. The Education Focus is a tremendous asset to the community of builders and remodelers. The generosity of homebuilders and remodelers is legendary through the Benefit Homes Project and HomeAid Houston. No other Builders Association in the Nation can compete with this organization, it’s leadership and staff.
