2008 GHBA Spike Competition

You may be asking yourself….WHAT IS A SPIKE?  It’s simple – a SPIKE is a new member!  When you recruit new members and earn 5.5 Spike credits, the National Association of Home Builders records your name as a Spike candidate and when you reach 6 Spike credits, you become a member of the NAHB Spike Club – the top membership recruiters in the country.

Help the GHBA become stronger in 2008 by adding new members to our association and be rewarded.  In October 2008 members who bring in 10 SPIKES are awarded with a complimentary vacation from the GHBA.  Find 18 new members and enjoy two complimentary vacations. 

The GHBA Membership Committee wants to see as many members as possible go on the cruise this year after a successful year of Association growth.  More importantly, we want to help new GHBA Board President, Brian Binash MIRM with Wilshire Homes realize the goal of 2000 + members in 2008. 

To get you started on your way to the 2008 Membership Trip, here are just a few ways to find new members:

1. Ask.  Emilio Silvestri, recognized nationally as All Time Big Spike, says “All I do is ask people, most people I talk to say they’ve never been asked to join.”  Your professional circle probably includes people who would benefit from membership, ask them if they have considered joining the GHBA.
2. Invite your clients to a luncheon meeting, dinner meeting, or GHBA meeting with a speaker or topic that appeals to their business.  It will build your relationship with your customer and your enthusiasm might become contagious.
3. Take an application with you to your next meeting and leave it with your contact.  Invite them to visit our website at www.ghba.org and learn more about the GHBA.  Make sure you put your name on the application as their sponsor.
4. Compare your vendor and/or subcontractor list with the GHBA Membership Directory.  Do business with a member and encourage your vendors/subcontractors to join in 2008.
5. Promote the 15 councils and committees within GHBA:  Sales and Marketing Council, Associates Council, BABA, Codes & Standards, Community Developers Council, Custom Builders Council, Education Committee, Government Affairs Committee, Membership, Retention and Ambassadors Committees, Montgomery County Builders and Developers, Remodelors Council, Affordable Housing Committee and the Green Building Committee. 
6. Play golf.  The GHBA hosts five golf tournaments a year - invite potential members to join your team and show them how much fun membership is with the GHBA.

2008 Contest Rules: 

All current  members of the Greater Houston Builders Association are eligible and encouraged to participate. No cash value is attached to each reward. Prizes cannot be redeemed for cash or discounts. A maximum of two (2) free trips will be awarded per member. A maximum of four New Affiliate Members count toward the trip. Contest concludes July 31, 2008. Contest rules are non-negotiable.
