50+ Housing Council

Our 50+ Housing Council is to provide a forum for those interested in all aspects of active adult living, universal, and accessible design. Throughout the Greater Houston area, we encourage continuous education, advocacy and networking with reliance on NAHB’s resources and industry leaders.  The Council will be the utmost source for our aging population and empower the housing industry for promotion of optimal and safe aging in place.

The council meets the third Wednesday of every month at the GHBA offices at 2:00 p.m. All GHBA members are invited to attend the meetings.

Over-55 Population to Reach 85 Million by 2014

(Announcing Formation of GHBA's New 50+ Housing Council)

A new report from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) 50+ Houcing Council predicts that 40 percent of all households will be headed by someone 55 or older by 2012. The 55+ population is expected to reach 85 million  by 2014. The number of households in the 65-74 age bracket by itself will grow by 4.5 million  between 2005 and 2014, an increase of more than 38 percent in only 10 years. (Read more...)
